The line between smartwatches and fitness trackers is becoming blurrier every year. The former are acquiring new functions, the latter are becoming thinner and lighter. It seems that the HUAWEI WATCH Fit Special Edition model makes this division completely obsolete. Let’s figure out what the new product has to offer.

Design and screen

The watch received an elongated rectangular case with rounded corners. The front panel is covered with protective 2.5D glass. If you look closely, you will notice that the screen is also slightly curved. There is a high-quality oleophobic coating.

The edges are made of plastic, stylized as metal. The new product is available in three colors: shining black, misty pink and rich green. We tested the last option. He looks reserved and noble. The build quality is not satisfactory: there are no gaps between the glass and the side frame, the joints are invisible to the touch. The weight of the watch is only 21 grams, you can hardly feel the device on your hand.

The included strap is made of silicone and has a wide range of adjustments – suitable for both men’s and women’s wrists. If desired, you can change it by first removing two plastic plugs from the inside. I would like to see a standard 20 mm watch mount here, then the choice of compatible straps would be much wider.

On the back there are sensors for monitoring physical indicators and magnetic contacts for charging. The platform with the sensors is slightly convex, but does not create any inconvenience. On the right side there is a single control button. It presses nicely and a little tightly, which reduces the likelihood of accidental operation.

The device is protected from water according to the 5 ATM standard, which means you can swim with it in the pool. However, this only applies to fresh water, so it’s better to forget about swimming with a watch in the sea.

The 1.64-inch screen has a resolution of 456×280 pixels. The pixel density is enough (326 ppi) for any interface elements and text to be displayed without ladders along the borders. Due to the thin frames, the useful area of the matrix reaches 70%. The high brightness is also pleasing, but there is no automatic adjustment, and this is the only drawback of the display. But there is an Always On Display mode.

Software and features

The gadget runs on the HarmonyOS operating system. There is no own application store, so you will have to be content with the built-in set of functions. To access all the features of the accessory, you must install the HUAWEI Health app on your smartphone. It is available on both iOS and Android.

The program contains reports on health indicators (stress, sleep, pulse, blood oxygen saturation). There is also a detailed infographic of physical activity. In addition, the utility has its own store of watch faces, among which there are plenty of free options for customizing the interface.

The model’s firmware is not much different from that in HUAWEI fitness trackers. The logic is simple and intuitive. Side swipes allow you to scroll through widgets with health indicators, weather data and a music player. Swiping up opens the quick settings curtain, swiping down opens the notification center. The latter are quite large and support response templates.

Pressing the button launches the application menu. It has a standard set of functions: training modes, breathing exercises, a calendar of women’s cycles, an alarm clock, a timer and a stopwatch. There are also options for a flashlight (when activated, its role is played by the display) and phone search.

HUAWEI WATCH Fit Special Edition

HUAWEI WATCH Fit Special Edition is equipped with a GPS sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope, which allows the watch to track the start of a workout and automatically launch the desired preset. There are twelve main types of activities, including the usual modes of swimming, running and cycling. Detailed infographics are available for each type. In total, the device supports 97 training modes.

Working hours

According to the manufacturer, if you use the gadget intensively, it will last up to a week on one charge. During testing, we managed to squeeze out six days of battery life, with notifications turned on, constant monitoring of sleep and heart rate, as well as an active Always On Display. The indicators are not particularly record-breaking, but sufficient for comfortable use. If you disable AOD and do not track sleep, battery life will increase significantly.

HUAWEI WATCH Fit Special Edition

HUAWEI WATCH Fit Special Edition is positioned as a smartwatch, but in reality it is an enlarged fitness tracker. Among the advantages, we note the simple and functional HarmonyOS firmware, the convenient HUAWEI Health companion application, as well as the large and bright AMOLED screen. The gadget does not have automatic brightness adjustment, but health monitoring is in perfect order. Is this enough to add the device to your shopping list? Let’s leave this question open – the market will judge.
