Just recently, the HUAWEI Watch 3 Pro smartwatch on the proprietary HarmonyOS operating system went on sale. It has already been installed on more than 25 million of the company’s devices, and the vendor plans to transfer more than 300 million gadgets to it this year. In the meantime, let’s explore the new product.
For some, a smart watch is, first of all, a beautiful and status accessory, and only then an assistant in everyday tasks. HUAWEI Watch 3 Pro was developed exclusively for a male audience and has respectable dimensions. Despite their size, they do not look bulky and, considering the weight of 63 grams, do not feel heavy on the hand. The gadget is made of titanium and covered with sapphire crystal. It’s still not worth throwing your watch under a tank, but in everyday use you don’t have to worry about it – you’re unlikely to accidentally scratch it or damage it in any way. The set includes a brown genuine leather strap, which can always be replaced if desired. On the right side of the case there is a convenient rotating wheel for navigation and a separate button for calling up the “Training” application, which cannot be reassigned.
The device was equipped with a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466×466 and a pixel density of 326 ppi. And the most interesting thing is multi-touch support. The bezels around the screen are disguised as an extension of the watch face, so it appears as if there are no bezels. As for the dials, there are a great variety of them – you can choose a design to suit your mood. By default, the watches feature predominantly sporty, futuristic, bright designs that do not really fit the classic look of the model itself. However, you can download for free or purchase third-party panels through the Health app store.
Huawei Watch 3 Pro is the first watch on HarmonyOS. And since they support eSIM, it’s a complete independent device from which you can make calls, text, take notes, and even listen to music through the built-in speaker. The speaker, by the way, is loud and of high quality.
In other words, we have before us almost a smartphone to be worn on the wrist. If you open the settings menu, it is almost exactly the same as what is on a regular mobile device. It is also possible to download applications through the AppGalley store – there are really a lot of them, but some with limited functionality. For example, the Pental Maps navigation service must also be installed on a smartphone. But after this, the watch becomes a navigator. The situation is the same with most software: the wearable device in fact only transmits information from the main one. It’s a shame that the built-in keyboard doesn’t support voice input, as it’s not easy to get your thumbs across the watch screen.
Applications installed by default have full functionality. These include voice notes that can be recorded and listened to from the watch itself, the Weather and Music applications, a compass, an alarm clock, a notebook and others.
It is worth noting that the Watch 3 Pro is intended mainly for owners of HUAWEI equipment. After all, to use the new product, you need to have a branded account and download the “Health” application, through which synchronization takes place. It is available for both Android and iOS, only the latter will have reduced functionality without the ability to use all the functions of a smartwatch. The developers promise to solve this problem in the near future and, quite possibly, will correct the situation with the upcoming updates.
Personal trainer on your wrist
Watch 3 Pro has all the latest features that are available in the wearable electronics market. The watch can measure blood oxygen levels and body temperature, monitor sleep quality, stress levels and the owner’s pulse. All information is displayed in a convenient form in the Health application.
Despite its classic appearance, the watch has many fitness functions. It’s very convenient that the device itself already has a list of workouts for both beginners and experienced athletes. Only for running, 13 different loads are available, and the total number exceeds 100, and the owner’s activities are determined automatically. The exercises include swimming, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, triathlon and a dozen more modes. The software tracks your heart rate at the moment and also writes a track using the built-in GPS module.
How are things going with autonomy?
The manufacturer promises up to 5 days of operation in normal mode and up to 21 days in energy saving mode, also known as “Ultra”. It comes with health and workout features that turn your smartwatch into a large-screen fitness tracker. According to our tests, in three days the device was discharged by 55%, so the data about five days is correct. The Watch 3 Pro does not have an Always On mode, apparently for the sake of autonomy. The display turns off after 5 seconds by default, but you can increase this time to 5 minutes in the settings.

From the point of view of changing the operating system, HUAWEI Watch 3 Pro turned out to be revolutionary, but with the classic evolution of technical characteristics. The watch is made of premium materials, shows excellent performance and even offers redundant functionality – there are not many smartphones running HarmonyOS yet, and working with other OSes is not ideal.
