Amazfit has mastered the formula for market success in smartwatches. Typically, the consumer is looking for a classic design, high-quality build, ability to answer calls, and a bright screen. All this can be found in the Amazfit GTR 4. We’ll tell you what else the device can do.
Discreet in appearance, pleasing in detail
The design of the Amazfit GTR 4 hints that the gadget was created primarily for men – the diameter is too large for a woman’s wrist, and the combination of a matte metal case with a dark strap looks strict. The watch looks equally good with a tracksuit, a warm sweater or a classic shirt. If necessary, the strap can be easily replaced with a brighter version – accessories with a width of 22 mm are suitable.
The new product weighs 34 grams – slightly more than the previous generation model. However, the “four” has a larger screen and a larger battery capacity, so the 2 gram weight increase is forgivable. The thickness has become completely smaller, even if only by 0.1 mm. The company’s engineers clearly did their best.
The ergonomics of the Amazfit GTR 4 are good. The display has beveled edges, which makes it easier to interact with the watch (although it makes it more sensitive to rough physical influence). The strap has a wide range of adjustments – you can choose the optimal fit for both wide and narrow wrists.
For control, not only a touch screen is used, but also a pair of analog keys. The first is made in the form of a rotating wheel, which serves to navigate through the application menu and helps to return to the main dial. The button is equipped with a vibration motor – tactile feedback simplifies interaction, but its quality is average, the vibration is slightly rattling. The second key is recessed into the body and is responsible for calling up the training menu. If desired, it can be reassigned to open a calendar or another action.
Like for the display
The watch matrix is covered with protective glass, and a high-quality oleophobic coating is applied on top – fingerprints are almost invisible, the finger glides easily over the surface. A 1.43-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 466×466 pixels is used. The density of 326 dots per inch is enough to make the image look clear – you won’t be able to see individual pixels unless you have eyes like an eagle.
The gloomy late autumn did not allow us to test the screen under the sun’s rays, but interacting with the Amazfit GTR 4 outdoors is a pleasure, the brightness reserve is good. There is an Always on Display option. Color reproduction can be adjusted by choosing more natural or rich shades.
The gadget comes pre-installed with a set of watch faces, and additional options are available in the Zepp app. The selection of third-party screensavers is impressive, which is good, because the standard dials are very colorful and will not suit everyone.
To each according to his ability
Amazfit GTR 4 is equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone, so you can answer your colleague on the go without taking out your phone or putting on a headset. The speaker allows you to play music, but there is no serious sound quality to speak of. Music tracks can be played without a smartphone – your favorite songs are downloaded to the internal storage of the smart watch.
There is no NFC module. Now this option has become less popular, but it would not hurt anyone. But the rest of the interfaces are in place – Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and QZSS. The new Amazfit product is in perfect order when it comes to communications.
The device runs on the Zepp OS 2.0 operating system. The watch already has a set of pre-installed services: alarm clock, calendar, player, weather, menstruation diary. Third-party applications must be installed via your smartphone, but their selection is limited. There are no comments about the shell itself: it functions smoothly. You also quickly get used to the standard interface.
To communicate with the phone you need the Zepp utility. It has a lot of features – you can connect several gadgets at the same time, set up training goals, adjust notifications for each program (for example, VK or YouTube) or view detailed activity statistics.
In November, a major software update was released for the model, which expanded the capabilities of the GTR 4. They added route import and real-time navigation, autonomous data collection while swimming, automatic drying of the watch after exercise in the pool, enabling Always On during training, and so on. Thanks to these innovations, the gadget has become more convenient to use.
Personal assistant in the gym
One of the features of Amazfit GTR 4 is the improved BioTracker 4.0 sensor. According to the manufacturer, it operates much more accurately and collects more data compared to the previous generation. It’s difficult to verify this statement without direct comparison, but during testing the watch showed its best side: it accurately counted your pulse, provided detailed sleep statistics, and constantly reminded you of the need to warm up when you had to sit at the laptop for a long time.
The only thing the watch can’t do is measure ECG and blood pressure, but these are specific functions. But everything else is in place: Amazfit GTR 4 evaluates the level of oxygen in the blood, determines the pulse and stress level of its owner, monitors sleep phases, and calculates the personal activity index (PAI).
There are many training modes – mountaineering, yoga, exercise on a stationary bike, snowboarding and strength exercises are available. The manufacturer claims to support over 150 sports. GTR 4 also received protection from dust and moisture up to 5 atmospheres. It’s obviously not worth diving in them, but swimming in the pool will be no problem.
No need to run to the outlet
The watch is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 475 mAh (the previous model had 440 mAh). The battery life of the “four” was pleasing: if you do not use the Always on Display mode, battery consumption per day with auto brightness turned on averages 4-6%. Many popular competitors can only envy this figure.
The exact operating time of the accessory greatly depends on the operating mode. If you use the GTR 4 only for counting steps, viewing the time and incoming notifications, the gadget can be left unplugged for almost three weeks. And if you measure your pulse around the clock, regularly go to the pool or gym, you need to charge the device about once a week. However, a constantly turned on GPS combined with high screen brightness can drain the device within a day. But it is unlikely that the watch will often be in such intensive use mode. For the average user, the autonomy of the Amazfit GTR 4 is more than enough.

Amazfit GTR 4 is a logical development of the popular series. Compared to its predecessor, the gadget has become smarter and a little more convenient. The disadvantages include the lack of NFC, as well as not a very large selection of third-party applications, however, these disadvantages also apply to many competing models. But the watch delights with a built-in microphone and speaker, an abundance of various training modes, advanced health monitoring options and a large, bright display. The autonomy of the accessory is also good: you will have to think about the socket no more than once a week.
