Amazfit recently updated its GTR and GTS lineup of flagship smartwatches. We received the GTR 3 Pro model for review. The accessory promises thoughtful ergonomics, decent autonomy and many functions for tracking health and sports activities. Is this so and what else can the gadget please you with?

Appearance and ergonomics

First of all, the new product should be praised for its compactness. The thickness of the gadget is 10.7 millimeters and the weight is only 32 grams. The device is convenient to wear on your hand around the clock, because the accessory, due to its dimensions, does not interfere at all during sleep and training. The included fluoroelastomer strap makes your skin sweat quickly, but the large number of holes allows the watch to fit confidently on any wrist size. Since the mount is standard (22 mm), the strap can be easily replaced with your own version.

The accessory looks premium thanks to the aluminum body and glass protruding above the screen. However, this design also has a downside: the device instantly collects scratches even when used carefully. There are two buttons at the end of the gadget. The top key is responsible for opening the menu of all applications and returning to the main screen. It also functions as a wheel, the rotation of which is accompanied by a pleasant vibration and allows you to quickly move around the interface. The bottom button is designed to go to the list of sports programs. Let’s note an unpleasant feature: when you bend your wrist back, the keys are pressed every now and then, accidentally activating unnecessary functions.

Top display

The new product has a 1.45-inch AMOLED panel covered with 2.5D glass with high-quality oleophobic coating. The maximum brightness value, according to the manufacturer, is 1000 nits. The screen boasts maximum viewing angles and high pixel density (331 ppi). The gadget clearly recognizes the raising of a hand, instantly activating the display. I liked the presence of the Always on Display function, the design of which depends on the selected dial. Correct operation of the light sensor allows you to accurately adjust the brightness of the matrix to the external lighting.

What is ZeppOS

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro runs on its own Zepp OS. In addition to physical buttons, swipe control is supported. Gestures left and right are responsible for switching between quick access cards, movement from the top brings up the quick settings curtain, and from the bottom – the notification center. By the way, about it: the watch stores up to 15 messages without the ability to reply to them. Otherwise, the functionality of the firmware allows you to call the device a smart watch, and not just a fitness bracelet with a larger display.

The accessory has 3 GB of memory for storing music. It is capable of acting as an audio stream source for wireless headphones. The watch, thanks to the loud speaker at the end of the case, will be able to receive calls and play your favorite tracks. The calculator and voice recorder applications turned out to be convenient. The sound is recorded with high quality and without noise. But there is something to criticize the device for: it lacks a program for notes and an NFC module.

Encouragement to exercise, health monitoring

We wear watches on our wrists every day, which means such a device should be great for tracking health indicators. Amazfit GTR 3 Pro copes with this task very well. The new product is capable of measuring pulse, blood oxygen levels, breathing rate and stress levels. Moreover, both automatically during the day and upon request: all four indicators are recorded with one click of a button. The device also tracks sleep quality and Personal Activity Index (PAI). The latter now takes into account not only sports load, but also everyday activities (for example, indicators while cleaning the house or walking with a child in the park). The female audience will appreciate utilities for tracking the menstrual cycle and an assistant for pregnant women.

The third generation BioTracker optical sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer are responsible for the correctness of the data obtained. The gadget automatically recognizes the start of a workout, reminding the user to activate the desired mode. When running, the Rabbit mode feature is useful for maintaining a set pace and then comparing your workout results. The updated version is capable of tracking 150 sports activities. And the satellites of the main navigation systems will help you accurately track the distance traveled, for example, during a bicycle race.

Synchronization with smartphone

The link between the watch and the phone is the Zepp app, available on Android and iOS. The program interface is divided into three tabs. The start page displays a full list of health indicators, including heart rate, blood oxygen levels and stress dynamics. Here you can also see statistics about your workouts, calories burned and sleep time. From the second tab, sports programs are launched and goals for the day are set. In another section you set the clock.

In the program, in addition to the initially installed 8 watch faces, more than 150 options are available for download, including animated ones. I liked the presence of an application store, from where you can expand the functionality of the accessory with additional utilities, such as a teeth brushing timer and body weight calculation. The selection of notification sources and configuration of the location of quick access cards are conveniently implemented.

How are things going with autonomy?

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro received a 450 mAh battery – by the standards of smartwatches, this is a decent figure. If you enable auto-brightness, constant synchronization with your smartphone, track all health indicators and receive notifications, the new product will discharge an average of 10% per day. When the AOD function is activated, the device begins to consume up to 20% per day. That is, the operating time of the watch without recharging is from 5 to 10 days. Autonomy in training mode (with GPS turned on) was 33 hours, which is within normal limits.

The watch is charged using a cradle with two contacts and a powerful magnet. Charging the battery through a 10-watt power supply from 0 to 50% takes half an hour, and up to 90% – 58 minutes. The last 10% is achieved in 40 minutes to extend battery life.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro review

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro can be called a worthy successor to the series. Yes, the battery life of the watch is slightly lower than that of its predecessor. But at the same time, the new model has more functions and monitored health indicators. The gadget supports the installation of additional utilities and a larger number of watch faces, but I would like to see an NFC module for contactless payment. Otherwise, this is a beautiful and convenient accessory, made of high-quality materials and equipped with the necessary set of sensors for health monitoring.
