Amazfit has established itself as a manufacturer of smartwatches with a good combination of cost and performance. Now a new model called Bip 3 Pro is entering the European market. It was equipped with a large IPS display, a battery that should last for two weeks, a GPS module and other options. Let’s check what the new product is capable of in action.
A Smart Approach to Design
Amazfit Bip 3 Pro is an affordable gadget with a practical polycarbonate body. The material is pleasant to the touch, it does not collect dust, dirt and fingerprints. The model does not look like a simple pedometer – it is a nice accessory that successfully complements the image. It goes well with sportswear, casual wear, and even a business suit. The colorful interface for training in a couple of clicks changes to a strict classic watch face.
The watch is lightweight – just over 30 grams, and the thickness of the case is less than a centimeter. At the same time, the Bip 3 Pro is a medium size, so they look equally good on both men’s and women’s wrists. The new product fits perfectly on the arm, does not cling to the sleeves and does not unfasten accidentally. We received a black version for review, but cream and pink versions will also be available for sale. The 20mm wide silicone strap has a standard Amazfit mount. The complete bracelet can be easily exchanged for another one – leather, metal or silicone.
On the side there is a single physical button, stylized as the crown of a mechanical watch. Clicking on it unlocks the screen and brings up the main menu. The watch is claimed to be water resistant to 5 ATM, so you can shower and train in the pool with the device.
Not afraid of the sun
Comparing the new model with last year’s Amazfit Bip U Pro, you notice how much the screen has been enlarged. Now it is a 1.69-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 240×280 pixels, occupying almost the entire front part of the device. The display is clear (218 ppi), with excellent viewing angles and a high brightness margin – information remains readable in direct sunlight. The panel is covered with tempered 2.5D glass with a high-quality oleophobic coating, which is pleasant to run your finger on. Fingerprints and other marks are easily wiped off the surface.
There is no light sensor – you will have to adjust the brightness manually. Always On Display is also missing, but this is the lot of more expensive models with OLED matrices. The maximum time the screen glows is 15 seconds, after which it goes out. To reactivate it, you need to raise your hand or press the side button.
Help in sports and more
The second generation BioTracker optical sensor is located on the inside of the gadget. It monitors your heart rate 24/7 and alerts you when your heart rate is too high. Smart watches determine blood oxygen saturation, analyze the phases of deep and REM sleep, and monitor stress levels. For the female audience, tracking of the menstrual cycle is provided. The device also calculates the personal activity index (PAI) and sets a score that shows the sports and everyday load on the user. This includes taking into account indicators while cleaning the house or walking with a child.
Amazfit Bip 3 Pro has a GPS module for saving training routes. The device determines location using GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, QZSS systems, so the accuracy is high. We compared the recorded track while jogging with and without a smartphone – there was no difference. You can safely leave your cell phone at home while running or cycling.
The model’s sports functions are represented by a choice of more than 60 modes. Among them there are both familiar ones, like swimming and running, and more exotic options – sailing, skateboarding and archery. During training, the gadget monitors the distance traveled, heart rate and speed, and counts calories burned. It also motivates you to practice more – it gives you points and awards for records.
Interface and synchronization with a smartphone
The interface of Amazfit Bip 3 Pro is user-friendly. Swiping up on the screen brings up the notification history, swiping down brings up the quick settings panel. On the left and right there are widgets with the weather, music player, recent activities and measuring various indicators such as pulse and blood oxygen levels. Their list and order can be easily adjusted in the Zepp mobile application, which can be installed on iPhone and Android smartphones. To pair for the first time, just scan the QR code from the watch display.
The main page of the utility displays all indicators of the activity and status of the accessory, and software updates and adjustments are available in the menu. You can set goals and track your progress towards them, as well as receive recommendations for improving your physical condition. If you are tired of the standard dials, it is easy to install an alternative option through the program – there are about 50 of them available. You can also upload your own image.
Amazfit Bip 3 Pro shows notifications from your smartphone. To do this, you need to go to the settings of the mobile application and manually specify the applications from which information will appear on the watch. You cannot respond to messages and letters, and the text is not displayed in full – only the first four lines are visible. You won’t be able to read longreads, but for most situations such functions are sufficient. For example, you can look at the accessory and evaluate whether it is worth taking your smartphone out of your pocket.
Autonomy is ok
One of the reasons for the popularity of the first generations of Amazfit Bip was their impressive battery life. It was provided by a transflective display, which consumes battery extremely economically. However, the market does not stand still – now watches with bright colorful panels that do not spare the battery are in high esteem.
The creators of Bip 3 Pro solved the problem by increasing the battery capacity and installing more energy-efficient hardware. We weren’t able to drain the device after six days of heavy use, with GPS turned on every day, workouts, and a constant stream of notifications. You can count on two weeks of moderate operation. And for a week – with an active load with a lot of sports activities.
