Two years have passed since the review of the Casio Edifice EQB-500 chronometer. In 2014, Japanese watches were overshadowed by the Apple Watch, Pebble, and Android Wear alternatives.
The portrait of a smart watch buyer is constantly changing, and the most impressive shifts take place in the minds of real owners. I read reviews when a person, after buying an Apple Watch, tested mechanics or quartz, after which he sold smart watches and purchased switches. Casio Edifice EQB-500 in this regard is the most painless transition option: they are half smart. They have a bluetooth module, but there are no notifications.
Synchronization with a smartphone is needed to quickly set the time, alarms and time zones. Of course, no one canceled the control through the mechanical buttons on the case, but I have not met a living Edifice owner who would remember numerous combinations of calling modes. With a smartphone, access to watch settings is much easier.
For two years, skeptics about the future of Casio have diminished, and now the EQB-500 are the best-selling in the Edifice line. The classic dial, stainless steel case, solar panel, water resistance and shock resistance played their role. The manufacturer has added new colors and variations.
For example, there are models with an electronic screen (ECB-500), as well as a rotating Earth globe to display the time of day (EQB-600).
It is gratifying to see that the vector of development of the watch brand Casio is preserved, despite the high competition from the «neighbors» in business.
