Not everyone remembers, but the segment of the so-called smart watches was born precisely against the backdrop of rumors about an Apple project called iWatch. The American company has not introduced its own wearable device, while competitors have succeeded in this direction. Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony and even ASUS showed their new products at the exhibition IFA 2014. The debut of the latter is especially interesting, because ASUS produces quite a lot of interesting devices, but smartwatches have not yet been among them.

ASUS smart watch got a name ZenWatch. The stylish design is complemented by a slim steel case and a leather strap. There are no buttons on the case, only a key for emergency situations is located below, which will allow you to make a call to a pre-set number. Most of the front of the device is occupied, of course, by a touch screen with a diagonal 1.63 inches and resolution 320 x 320 pixels, which is 278 pixels per inch. The screen technology is AMOLED and the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

A special version acts as the operating system of ZenWatch Android for wearable devices called Wear. Its performance is provided by a 1.2 GHz processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, the amount of RAM is 512 MB, and the drive is 4 GB. Since the gadget is devoid of buttons, all control is carried out using voice commands. There are pre-installed ASUS applications, there is a sufficient number of watch faces to use ZenWatch for its intended purpose. The smart watch communicates with a mobile device using Bluetooth 4.0.

The battery capacity is quite at the level of competitors — 1.4 Wh. The smartwatch is also waterproof (IP55). In general, ASUS turned out to be a rather interesting device for the Zen line, which already has a laptop, tablet and smartphone. Smart watches ZenWatch definitely do not spoil the picture. The price will be about 199 euros and will depend on the region. [Engadget]
